About the Author

Nathaniel Philbrick became Brown University's first Intercollegiate All-American sailor in 1978. After graduate school, he worked at Sailing World magazine and freelanced, writing several sailing books. Moving to Nantucket in 1986, he developed a passion for the island's history, leading to Away Off Shore. He founded the Egan Maritime Institute in 1995.
