Saint Thérèse de Lisieux, born Marie-Françoise-Thérèse Martin, was a French Carmelite nun known as "The Little Flower of Jesus." She entered the enclosed Carmelite community at age 15 and died of tuberculosis at 24.
Despite her short life and desire to remain unknown, her posthumous memoir made her one of the twentieth century's most popular saints.
She was canonized in 1925 and declared a Doctor of the Church in 1997.
Her spirituality centered on confidence and love, embracing littleness and ordinary life as paths to holiness.
The Basilica of Lisieux remains France's second-greatest pilgrimage site.
