Fred Uhlman was a German-English writer, painter, and lawyer of Jewish origin, born in 1901 in Stuttgart, Germany.
Forced to flee Nazi Germany in the 1930s, he eventually settled in England, where he became a British citizen.
Though he initially built a career as a lawyer, Uhlman later pursued his passions for writing and painting.
He is best known for his novella Reunion (L'amico ritrovato in Italian), a poignant story of friendship and loss set against the backdrop of the rise of Nazism.
Uhlman's work reflects his personal experiences of exile and displacement.
He died in 1985 in London.
