Noel Langley (1911-1980) was a South African-born novelist, playwright, screenwriter, and director.
He gained fame as one of the screenwriters for The Wizard of Oz while under contract with MGM, though he disliked the final film after his script was revised.
He was selected for this role based on his children's classic, The Tale of the Land of Green Ginger, first published in 1937.
After World War II, Langley worked extensively on British films including Scrooge, Ivanhoe, and The Prisoner of Zenda.
He continued writing novels, plays, and short stories throughout his career until his death in Desert Hot Springs, California.
