Rob Hopkins developed his environmental philosophy after completing a permaculture design course in 1992, a path further shaped by witnessing Bill Mollison lecture in Stroud.
He became active in the Bristol Permaculture Group while earning a degree in Environmental Quality and Resource Management at UWE Bristol.
After relocating to Ireland, Hopkins taught permaculture and pursued ecovillage development, establishing Baile Dulra Teoranta, Ireland's first charitable-status eco-village company.
In 2005, he moved to Totnes, Devon, undertaking a PhD at Plymouth University focused on Energy Descent Action Plans, refining models applicable across diverse communities worldwide.
