William Lee Miller
William Lee Miller is a scholar specializing in ethics and institutions, currently affiliated with the Miller Center.
He served as Thomas C. Sorensen Professor of Political and Social Thought at the University of Virginia from 1992 until his retirement in 1999.
His academic career also includes teaching at Indiana University, Yale University, and Smith College.
Miller founded the Poynter Center on American Institutions and chaired UVA's Department of Rhetoric and Communication Studies.
Beyond academia, he served six years on New Haven's Board of Aldermen and worked as a speechwriter for Adlai Stevenson's 1956 presidential campaign, as well as contributing to The Reporter magazine.
