Brian Selznick is an American author and illustrator born in 1966 in New Jersey.
He studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and worked at a children's bookstore in New York City, where he learned about children's literature.
Selznick has illustrated many books for other authors and has written several of his own.
His most ambitious work is The Invention of Hugo Cabret, which combines text and illustrations in a unique format.
Selznick has received recognition for his work, including a Caldecott Honor for The Dinosaurs of Waterhouse Hawkins.
He divides his time between Brooklyn, New York, and San Diego, California.
