Anna Burns was born in Belfast in 1962, growing up during the Troubles that would heavily influence her writing.
She moved to London in 1987, and her debut novel, No Bones, drew on her Belfast childhood, earning an Orange Prize shortlisting in 2002.
Her third novel, Milkman, brought her international recognition, winning the 2018 Man Booker Prize, the 2019 National Book Critics Circle Award nomination, the 2019 Women's Prize for Fiction nomination, and the 2020 International Dublin Literary Award.
Burns is celebrated for her innovative narrative style and unflinching exploration of community, identity, and conflict.
