أنطونيو داماسيو هو عالم أعصاب وعالم نفس عصبي برتغالي-أمريكي درس الطب في جامعة لشبونة قبل أن ينتقل إلى الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية.
يشغل حالياً منصب أستاذ في علوم الأعصاب وعلم النفس والفلسفة، ويترأس معهد الدماغ والإبداع في جامعة جنوب كاليفورنيا.
تتركز أبحاثه على البيولوجيا العصبية للعقل، مع اهتمام خاص بالذاكرة واللغة والعاطفة واتخاذ القرار، حيث طور فرضية العلامات الجسدية المؤثرة.
تتناول كتبه الشهيرة، مثل "خطأ ديكارت" و"شعور ما يحدث"، كيفية نشوء العواطف والمشاعر من تفاعلات الدماغ مع الجسم ودورها في الوعي والإدراك الاجتماعي، مما أكسبه العديد من الجوائز الدولية وعضويات في الأكاديميات العلمية.
